Making a Difference, One Person at a Time
Dentistry is a large part of my life: it’s the most challenging, interesting, and rewarding way to spend my days. For me, it’s truly a blessing to have a career that helps people. Whether I’m getting people out of miserable pain, helping them achieve the smile they’ve always wanted, or teaching them to value and care for their smile, I’m making a difference.
I’m humbled by the trust patients place in me and take that responsibility seriously. I had a patient come in once with a toothache and ask me to remove the tooth. After an exam, I realized he didn’t have a toothache and immediately sent him to the ER. It turned out he was experiencing bleeding in the brain; had he not gone to the ER and had surgery, he would not have seen the next day.
Being a dentist is about building relationships — connections based on trust and compassion — and understanding each person’s needs. My mission is to create a smile the patient values. That could mean many different things, depending on the person. I’m passionate about balancing science, art, and the patient’s needs and desires to create a healthy smile the patient loves.
At Premier Dentistry, we value quality over quantity. Currently, dentistry is changing, with corporations taking over and insurance companies focusing purely on the bottom line. I know, because I’ve worked in those types of office and have vowed never to practice that kind of dentistry again.
My team and I are fighting that trend. We focus on individual care, unique treatment plans, and putting the patient’s goals and well-being at the forefront of all we do. Each patient — each person — is important to us. We promise always to hear your concerns and work with you.
Education and Continuing Education
My Bachelor of Science in biochemistry is from Pacific Union College; my Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) was awarded by Loma Linda University. I’m committed to constantly learning and honing my abilities.
Continuing education makes me a better dentist. Not only does it improve my skills, it keeps me current, engaged, and excited about dentistry. This field is changing and improving, which challenges me to learn and grow. I’ve been out of school for more than 10 years and am even more enthusiastic than when I started. Now is an exciting time for dentists and for our patients!
Part of the Community
I firmly believe every person has a responsibility to help and support others. As a dental practice, Premier Dentistry offers a free dental clinic at our office through the Dentistry from the Heart program. I’ve also volunteered for Medical Teams International and will be participating in a medical and dental mission trip to Belize in the summer of 2016.
I grew up in Santa Rosa, CA and have lived in the Portland area since 2005. My wife Sonia and I have been together for almost two decades. We have a son, Caleb, who loves computers and enjoys playing basketball. Our daughter Casey is very artistic and creative. She also loves to play basketball.
When I’m not in the office, or pursuing continuing dental education, you’ll find me with my family. We really enjoy traveling together. I also make time for the golf course.
